Today’s society is laser-focused on youth in all of its forms, and while at one time you could have ignored a few fine lines, wrinkles, or loss of volume, the advent of social media and ever-present high definition cameras have changed that.

Fortunately, the aesthetics world is also focused on how you look – no matter if you’re searching for the best anti-aging skincare regimen or effective cosmetic treatments, there is something out there for everyone. If you’ve started to notice that your best efforts to avoid the signs of premature aging aren’t doing the trick, injectable fillers may be the solution. Injectable fillers are a nonsurgical and virtually painless treatment used to diminish visible wrinkles and add volume to your face, leaving you looking younger, smoother and refreshed.

At The Clinic for Dermatology & Wellness, we offer the entire line of Juvéderm® fillers, providing you with a wide range of choices to address everything from restoring lost volume to plumping your lips to softening lines and wrinkles. Our highly trained and experienced injectors will work with you to determine the right filler for your needs, ensuring that you leave our office looking beautiful and natural – without anyone knowing that you’ve had a cosmetic procedure.

What is in a Juvéderm Filler?

Juvéderm was approved by the FDA in 2006 to treat facial folds and wrinkles, and since then, several other types of Juvederm fillers have been added, each with a specific formulation and purpose. Every filler in the Juvéderm family contains hyaluronic acid, which is used in several injectable fillers because of its versatility. Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a very small molecule that is found naturally in almost every cell in your body, and it has the amazing ability to retain 1,000 times its own weight in water. This little molecule is an essential part of nearly all of the systems in your body, because it binds with water and forms a viscous gel that serves to lubricate and moisturize everything from your skin to your joints to your eyes. In fact, about 50 percent of the hyaluronic acid molecules in your body are found in your skin, as they work to keep tissues balanced and adequately hydrated. When used in injectable fillers, HA gel softens and smooths creases and lines, fills in deep wrinkles and folds, and adds volume to places where it has diminished – and it does all of this using its natural capacity for keeping your skin looking healthy and supple.

The Juvéderm Family of Fillers

Juvéderm and Juvéderm XC

The original members of the Juvéderm family of fillers are Juvéderm and Juvéderm XC. The only variation in the two formulations is that Juvéderm XC has the addition of lidocaine, which allows those who are sensitive to pain to further minimize the chance for potential discomfort during the procedure. Juvederm and Juvederm XC are typically used for treating mild to moderate lines around the mouth and nose (nasolabial folds), as well as between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), between the nose and upper lip (the philtrum), and the earlobes. Results last up to a year.

Juvéderm Ultra Plus XC

Ultra Plus XC has a formulation similar to Juvéderm XC, and it is used to treat the same areas of your face, but Ultra Plus XC is typically used to address moderate to severe folds and wrinkles. This is because the molecules in Ultra Plus XC are larger, which can provide a bit more volume and longevity of results

Juvéderm Vollure

Juvéderm Vollure targets more severe nasolabial folds, marionette lines and smile lines, offering results lasting up to 18 months.

Juvéderm Volbella XC

Juvéderm Volbella XC is used to smooth and soften the appearance of perioral lines (or “lipstick lines”) around your mouth for up to a year. Volbella is also used for augmenting and enhancing your lips.

Juvéderm Voluma XC

Juvéderm Voluma XC is designed to restore volume, contour and lift to your cheeks and midface that is often lost as a result of the natural aging process. Juvéderm Voluma XC boosts volume and rejuvenates your appearance, leaving you with facial volume that looks beautiful and natural, with results that can last up to two years.

What To Expect From Your Juvéderm Filler Treatment and Results

All of our Juvederm treatments are performed in the comfort of our office, and usually take less than 30 minutes. The procedure is virtually pain-free, especially if you are receiving one of the formulations that contain lidocaine. However, we do apply a topical anesthetic cream prior to performing the injections to minimize any potential discomfort. Juvederm injections are minimally invasive and require zero downtime for recovery – you can return to your daily activities immediately after your filler session without anyone knowing that you had anything “done.”

Filler Treatment Handout

As with any injectable treatment, there may be some minor side effects at the injection site, including:

  • Hardness or small lumps or bumps
  • Redness
  • Tenderness, mild pain or itching
  • Swelling or bruising

If you experience any of the above effects, rest assured that they are temporary, and usually resolve on their own within a few days.

You will see immediate results from your Juvéderm treatments, and you will see continued improvements for about one to two weeks. The amount of Juvéderm needed to enhance or provide correction to an area will be determined during your consultation with one of our professional aesthetics staff, as it will depend on the area being treated and your desired results. Your Juvederm results can last for up to one year (and sometimes more) contingent on which filler was used and how quickly it is absorbed by your body.
